There is something special about the seaside in winter, and winter in St Ives is no exception!

The town truly comes into its own during winter. During the short and sweet days, enjoy the ambience of the famous St Ives light that has captured the heart of so many artists over the years. At night, explore the fairy light lined streets that give the town and harbour a magical, romantic atmosphere. Perfect for couples looking for a romantic winter getaway.

One of the best things about St Ives is simply taking life at a slower pace. Wander the cobbled streets of the old fisherman’s quarter or browse the various shops and galleries. The high street is positively loaded with unusual and independent shops. You could easily spend a good portion of your time roaming from one shop to another. All have done a great job of putting their customers safety first by taking the recommended precautions so you can feel comfortable and at ease.

If you’re feeling more adventurous, get your walking boots on, head out on the Coast Path and blow away the cobwebs. St Ives has some stunning places for walkers to explore, like Knill’s Monument – a 50ft tall granite obelisk high up on Worvas Hill in Steeple Woods. Head east towards Carbis Bay, about a mile from St Ives town centre and take the road next to the Cornish Arms, Steeple Lane, and carry on along this for half a mile. It’s not a long walk, but it can be steep. Luckily, the reward is one of the breathtaking views.

For a more challenging walk, the South West Coast Path to Zennor is one of the most spectacular stretches of coastline in Cornwall. Take the coast path from Porthmeor Beach in St Ives, and strike out towards Zennor to take in the rugged beauty of Man Rock and Trig Point. Look out for the inhabitants of Seal Island too.

Of course, you’re never far from a beautiful beach, and St Ives is flanked by beaches on all sides for you to discover if you fancy swapping your walking boots for your wellies.

Roaming can work up a thirst, and luckily there’s no shortage of cafes to choose from for a warming coffee and cake. Most baked goods are supplied by the town bakeries or made on site. From some, it’s even possible to gaze at the sea while sipping your beverage. Many of the eateries on the wharf or beaches offer incredible sea views to enjoy with your hot drink of choice. Try Yallah Cafe, Hub St Ives or Porthmeor Beach Cafe.

Or why not take a leisurely lunch along the harbour or in one of the traditional pubs that can be found all over town. Good food and good views, what could be better for a romantic couples break?

If you and your significant other are art lovers then St Ives couldn’t be a better place. Artists from all over have had a long love affair with St Ives and art galleries are hidden everywhere. Hunt them all out by exploring the warren-like streets, you may even find something special to take home with you. Of course, St Ives is home to the world-renowned Tate St Ives.
